Anonymous asked: hi, i saw that you go to UF. i'm considering trying to transfer there because i LOVE florida and have always wanted to go there for college. could you tell me the best and worst things about UF? and whats your major?
Sure! UF is really the best traditional college experience, for anyone. Whether you’re into Greek Life or Japanese anime, there are all sorts of things to do and the student body is extremely diverse. It has really active clubs that put on large-scale events that are actually fun. I’m not even a giant sports fanatic, but it’s still cool to see athletes everywhere and there really is nothing like the school spirit here. You can’t go anywhere without seeing orange and blue, but that atmosphere brings a great sense of unity and pride; I also can’t imagine how any other school’s tailgating can compare to ours. We may not have had the best football season this year, but UF tries to be the best at everything and usually succeeds. For instance, just yesterday I went to a gymnastics meet. It was packed, I got a free shirt, I witnessed a 5th best score school record, and we’re currently number one in the nation. Gainesville may not be a big metropolitan city, but it is definitely fun. It’s a college town. There’s awesome cuisine (and a lot of food places are open until at least 3AM for all your late night needs!), frequent concerts and house music/dj events, awesome nightclubs, and a lot of parties if you’re into that. It’s close to a lot of place to take road trips like other colleges, New Orleans, Orlando theme parks, or even a short distance away are a bunch of really cool natural springs to go camping or tubing. Worst things are really just general for any college, but police can be dumb/unfair, especially to people on bikes, the weather can be a little bipolar (or really extreme [for a Floridian] in summer/winter), and certain food/”stuff” on campus can be slightly overpriced. Oh, and we have a bad rep for our dorms, according to the Princeton Review, but I personally think they’re nice. Plus, there are different room types for your preferences and most halls are getting renovated now. And my major is journalism, which UF happens to be one of the best in the nation for it with the largest student-run newspaper in the country. I love my college and the Journo professors are seriously the coolest people ever. Hope that helped. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
